THE CARAVAN HORNS

Nothing adds excitement to a live band quite like a horn section! For select events, The Caravan Band expands its lineup with talented trumpet and saxophone players who bring the signature horn lines, energy, and unmistakable sound of the original recordings to life. Our horn musicians rotate depending on the event and instrumentation needed.

Mark Michell — Trumpet, Bass & Sound Engineer

Mark Michell has performed on trumpet with The Caravan Band at select events since 2005, bringing signature horn lines from classic favorites to life. An accomplished bassist, music educator, and international touring musician, Mark has performed with multiple rock groups and is also the founder of Low End University, an interactive online school for bass guitar. In addition to performing, Mark lends his expertise as a sound engineer, helping Caravan sound its best both onstage and off. Follow Mark at LOW END UNIVERSITY.

Kenny “Special K” Alderman — Saxophone

Kenny Alderman brings musicianship, energy, and plenty of personality to Caravan’s horn line. A saxophonist who also teaches saxophone and piano, Kenny knows how to entertain while he plays. Affectionately known as “Special K,” he has a signature groovy dance step that makes his saxophone performances as much fun to watch as they are to hear.

Cory Joy Craig — Saxophone

Cory Joy Craig brings accomplished musicianship—and a contagious smile—to the Caravan stage. A saxophonist and middle school band director, Cory has also been recognized as a two-time nominee for the GRAMMY Music Educator of the Year Award. Her enthusiasm for music is evident whenever she performs, adding both polished musicianship and joyful energy to Caravan’s horn line.

Paul Tinker — Trumpet

Paul Tinker brings a unique combination of music, theatre, and personality to The Caravan Band. A retired middle school band director and accomplished trumpet player, Paul is also a talented local theatre actor. His natural stage presence makes him equally comfortable behind a trumpet or behind a microphone, and he frequently lends his talents to emcee duties at Caravan events.
